Housekeeping Info

As the season quickly comes to a close this Thursday, with our Thanksgiving Day match-up against Chicopee Comp, I wanted to make sure everyone was informed about the end of year process for collecting equipment.

In the past, we have chosen one day, after Thanksgiving, to turn in ALL equipment. This method has left me often chasing kids who did not make that one day.

This year, we are having three Turn-in Times:

1. Wednesday before practice, ALL players should turn in the following clean/laundered items:
   - White Game Shirt
   - Practice pants
   - Practice shirts

2. Thursday after the game, ALL players will turn in the following items:
   - Helmets (without mouthpieces)
   - Shoulder pads

3. Saturday at 9:00 am ALL players will turn in the following clean/laundered items:
   - Black Game shirt
   - Game pants
   - Belt
   - Girdle
   - Thigh & Knee Pads

** IMPORTANT: If you cannot make the 9:00 am turn in on Saturday, please arrange for a teammate or family member to drop off the required equipment in a bag w/ your name on it. Please let Coach Scammons know ahead of time to be expecting this so he can account for you and your equipment.

Anyone who does not turn-in equipment as of 9:00 am on SATURDAY, NOV. 30th, will have their locks cut-off (if equipment is left in a locker) and a bill sent home for the cost of the missing equipment.

Thank you for understanding the importance of collecting, reconditioning and securing our equipment and uniforms for future use. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in this important process.

PATRIOTS RAFFLE RETURN

Parent Reps will be collecting the Patriots Raffle Tickets and Money after each of the following practices:

MONDAY, NOV. 18th
TUESDAY, NOV. 19th
THURSDAY, NOV. 21st

All players are responsible for the ten tickets they were issued. If you have not sold your 10 raffle tickets, please make a late push to do so. This was our only fundraiser for the year and it is crucial that we make the most of it.

Football Schedule Update 2.0

After a heart breaking loss in the first round of the 2013 playoffs, we have been added to the pool of non-playoff teams for re-scheduling.

This week (Fri. Nov. 15th) we will play Holyoke HS @ HOME at 6 pm.

As a result of this added game, the Freshman game originally scheduled for Nov. 15th @ Chicopee Comp has been re-scheduled to SATURDAY, NOV. 16th at 10:00 AM @ Chicopee Comp. The bus will depart SHHS at 8:45 AM.

Also, the start time of  JV game scheduled for NOV. 18th @ Chicopee Comp has been changed to 4:00 PM. The bus will depart SHHS at 2:45 PM.

Football Schedule Update 1.0

With the playoff's starting this Friday, we have begun essentially a new season. The schedule, at this point, is very fluid and the "Who, When and Where" we play next week will be determined by whether we win or lose this week.

This Friday we will be traveling to Dalton, MA to face Wahconah, for a Superbowl rematch, in the first round of the state playoff system. The game is scheduled for 6 PM Friday with the bus departing the high school at 3:15 PM.

Because of this schedule, and the need for all coaches and many Freshman players, the Freshman game scheduled against Chicopee this Friday has been cancelled.

What happens next?

1. If we win, we will move to the next round of playoffs facing the winner of the Agawam/Northampton game.

2. If we lose, we will be put into the pool of non-playoff teams for re-scheduling. We will learn who our opponent will be by Sunday.

I will try to update our calendar as I get information. Thanks for all of the support throughout the year!!

Amherst JV game cancelled

The JV game scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday, October 13th has been cancelled. Amherst claims to have used too many JV players during the Varsity game and does not have enough to play a JV game.

Important Schedule Change

The Varsity game @ Amherst has been moved from Friday, Oct. 11th to SATURDAY, OCT. 12th at 2 PM. Gridiron Club feeds TWO armies!

On behalf of the coaching staffs and players from both teams, I would like the thank all of the volunteer Gridiron Club parents who helped feed over 200 hungry men and boys after the Central scrimmage. The opposing team was surprised, and in awe, at the generosity of our parent group. Equally impressed was our own team - who needed a good meal after a very long, hot and competitive day!!  It is days like these that make the football team feel more like a family - THANK YOU!

Game Schedules

The scheduled games for Frosh, JV and Varsity have all been added to the Calendar (at the bottom of this page).

Please note that schedules are very dynamic and there can be changes to dates, locations or times as the year moves forward. West Nile, site conflicts, schools that drop programs can all have an effect on the schedule, so please be patient and diligent before assuming a scheduled event is finalized.

I will update the schedules as changes are given to me from our Athletic Director.

School Access Issue

On Tuesday, Aug. 27 the coaches and players were informed by the high school administration that the locker rooms, back gym, weight room and training room were off limits due to safety concerns (noted by the Fire Inspector) as a result of construction in the main gym.

Students were informed that they would not be able to access those areas until further notice. Players were given a room to store their equipment during the school day and allowed to change in the bathrooms located in the front hallway near the gym/locker room.

Wednesday, Aug. 28 I received notification that the issues have been addressed by the school/contractors and access has been restored. Students will be allowed to use all facilities previously mentioned.

However, NO PERSONS MAY ACCESS THE MAIN GYM FOR ANY REASON AT ANT TIME until the renovation is complete.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the school administration.

IMPORTANT REMINDER!!

This is an important reminder that USER FEES are due by Thursday, Aug. 29. The fee of $125.00 should be a check made payable to: South Hadley High School.  Waiver Forms can be picked up in Mr. Desautels' office.

Also, the Pre-Participation Concussion Form is also due. That form can also be picked up in Mr. Desautels' office.

Uniforms will not be issued to any player that has not completed those two tasks.

If you have any questions please contact Coach Scammons or Mr. Desautels.

EEE & West Nile...again

Due to recent local cases of EEE(Eastern Equine Encephalitis) the South Hadley Superintendent, Dr. Young, has mandated that all outdoor activities conclude before 6:30 pm until after the first frost of the year.

This will impact the football team in a couple of ways. First, Thursday practices, which are scheduled for 6-8 pm, will now be at the normal 3-6 pm time slot. Second, all night games are subject to be moved to Saturday afternoons. Away games may still be held on Friday nights - but that decision is made by the host school. All home night games will be moved to daytime until after the first frost.

I will update the game schedule as I get information from Mr. Desautels. So please check the calendar as the season progresses for recent changes.

Obviously this is not an ideal situation and is a disappointment to the coaches, players and parents who enjoy Friday night lights!! However, it is an uncontrollable factor that we will deal with on an ongoing basis. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Scrimmage Update 2.0

The scrimmage vs. Central on Saturday, Aug. 31 will be starting at 11:00 am (a change from 10 am). We learned there is a youth league JV game at the high school from 9-11, so we have to bump the start time. We are now planning on 11 am - 2 pm for the duration of the scrimmage. The Gridiron Club has been planning on providing food and drinks for the players and officials afterward.

Football Program News!!

Hello Tiger Football Families:
It’s almost that time of year again. There is nothing like Tiger Football games on Friday nights under the lights. The players and coaches are hard at work preparing for the upcoming season. We are now asking the players, parents and boosters to also go to work.
Our main fundraiser for this season is a game program that will be handed out at home football games. We need our football families to sell program ads to businesses and families with fan favorite ads (family support ads for your favorite player).
The money raised  from these advertisements will go a long way in our ability to give our boys a FIRST CLASS football experience.
We TRULY need ALL of your help to achieve this goal. If each family can raise $200 or more in advertising, we will surely be able to fund all of the activities that Coach Scammons laid out in his e-mail to all football families on July 12, 2013. He stated that the Gridiron funds the following:

1. Freshman football-coaches, buses, officials
2. Buses for scrimmages
3. HUDL-our online video system (used for recruiting, player highlights and coaching
4. Decals for helmets (this is not covered by the school)
5. End of the Year Banquet-food and awards
6. Senior Night
7. Coaching Clinics
8. Enzone Camera System-used to record games
9. Equiptment/Supplies not provided by the school

We all know how important this fundraiser is to the success of the Tiger Football program. Please participate in this effort to give OUR program the needed resources to succeed this season.
You will find two links in this post. Both links will take you to our FORMS page where you can download each form. The first is a Program Advertising Form (Football Program Ad Form 2013) that you can fill out with your advertisers’ information along with their checks. The completed forms and checks should be forwarded to Peggy Baker. Peggy’s info is on the Ad Form.

The other link is a list of businesses that have supported Tiger Football over the past few seasons(Program Sponsor List 2013).  I’m sure that everyone knows at least one or two of these business owners and can get them to run an Ad to support the 2013 Tiger Football team. Also, please contact individuals that you know who own local businesses or work in bigger companies that have the ability to support our program with an Ad.
The fan favorite ads are a great way for your family and relatives to show their support for your son. I’m sure we can all get their grandparents, aunts, uncles, or family friends to show their support for their favorite player.

Please notify the committee when you secure an advertisement from anyone on the list. This will allow us to  inform everyone, so your efforts will not be duplicated.
All advertising should be sent in ASAP, so we can get the booklet ready for the printer. We are running against the clock as our first home game is September 14th.

ALL AD INFORMATION AND CHECKS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN AUGUST 25th, 2013

Please know that you can call any of the South Hadley Gridiron officers, or members of the Program Ad Committee with any questions or concerns. The committee is made up of:

John Baker (413) 348-7792                                                       Tommy Fitzell (413) 348-4781
Tom Allard (413) 244-1227                                                        Ed Beattie (413) 348-6480
Ceasar Fernandes (860) 707-5677                                           Dan Burnett (413) 563-5004

We are all looking forward to a FANTASTIC football season from our boys. Our goal is to start the season off with a TRULY successful fundraiser!!!!

THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORTS!!!! GO TIGERS!!!!!

Summer Weight Room Info.

The High School weight room will be open, and supervised by the coaching staff, every Monday Wednesday and Friday from 7 am - 8:30 am. All athletes should enter through the back door - DO NOT WALK THROUGH SCHOOL.

For any players interested in the team weight training program, put together by Coach Scammons, please download the 2013 Lifting Program here: http://shadleyfootball.stackvarsity.com/forms/

I would also like to remind players and parents to properly hydrate during the hot summer months and make sure to eat a healthy breakfast before heading out in the morning to workout. It is important to drink plenty of water BEFORE activity, as well as during and after. We want to avoid heat related injury/illness so be careful not to push yourself too hard during summer training sessions, especially if not under the supervision of a coach or athletic trainer.

Welcome

Welcome to the new South Hadley Tiger Football blog. While we do have a team website, it can be a bit difficult to find information and present our program the way we would like. Utilizing this blog, we can provide as much info as needed, as well as include the links to important team sites (see Links to the right). It will also allow users to comment, ask questions, and provide general feedback as to how we can help keep our players, parents, and fans informed and involved. To have new posts sent to your email, please fill out the "Follow by Email" box to the right.  I hope you like it.
